1. Personal Video Habits
In this day of age, streaming shows and videos is all there is to do when there is nothing to do. Social media has made an incredible impact on streaming shows in today's world. Initially when you think of video habits, do you think about Netflix, Youtube, Disney+, and Hulu? While those are the top dogs of video streaming, I also think about TikTok and Instagram reels. Although the reels on Instagram are the same thing as TikTok, I still get caught up into those reels for at least an hour at a time. TikTok has given me a much worse habit that will last up to three hours sometimes. How do these videos on social media and streaming services pull us in for hours upon hors everyday of our busy lives? I guess that all depends on the preference of the user, but is there more to it?
Social Media Videos
Usually when I am on Instagram I am looking for what is usually going on in college football or sometimes just sports in general. I do this to make sure I am all caught up for maybe a paper that I am writing or for just conversation with my friends who also enjoy talking sports. The issue I always have is scrolling through Instagram and seeing reels with topics completely off from what I am looking for, mostly related to anime(my guilty pleasure). Sometimes I could be watching a highlight reel from a football, but it's typically anime.
Now on TikTok I have a very vast amount of genres and topics that pop up on my for you page. When TikTok was starting to become really popular I was one of the people saying I would never get it and now I am one of people that open it up without thinking. I will watch stuff related to sports, superheroes, comedy, and yes anime.
Hulu
My selection on Hulu is a vast majority of animes and watching football and basketball live on ESPN, FOX, and CBS. People do look at me a little crazy when I tell them that I enjoy watching anime, but it's mostly because the amount episodes I will watch through just to finish a series. I have seen about five or six different anime shows over the past year and a half. Three of those shows consist of over 1000 episodes. That feat is the main reason for why people look at me like I am crazy.
Regular Hulu does not provide the live sports that Hulu Live provides. Now Hulu Live has become the new DirectTV and Dish Cable, but it's cheaper and better. There is a good chance that you've seen commercials from professional sports stars saying the promotion "Hulu has live sports", and I am so happy that they do.
Netflix & Peacock
Netflix is basically the pioneer for streaming services and is probably used by just about everyone who has access to the internet. The shows that have hooked me to on Netflix are the Netflix Originals like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, and Outer Banks. Sometimes I just keep watching shows on Netflix because I just want to watch the rest of story to know the rest of the story.
Basically these streaming services and social media apps know exactly what you want when you want it. Is that due to the FBI agent watching what you pick? No that is due to the fact that the companies who designed these services made it to pick out shows and videos from what you have already seen before.
Disney Plus
On Disney Plus my nerd side really comes out with what I watch on the streaming service. I'll watch Marvel movies on repeat, binge watch any Star Wars related shows/movies like The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. Sometimes I will just rewatch some of favorite shows as a kid just to see why I liked them... sometimes I still do not know why I liked some.
Youtube
Youtube has basically everything that I just said previously. I'll look for The Office, football, anime, superheroes, and Star Wars compilations constantly. My Youtube home page is filled to the brim with videos just like what I mentioned previously.
