Something that has become quite apparent in the United States is that sports has become almost a religion/cult. Especially for me when it comes to the Oklahoma Sooners and the players that go to the NFL from there. I have never been much of an NFL fan, but I still love to watch the Oklahoma alumni do great in the pros. Companies know that people like me love football players and the sport in general, so why not use that as a marketing strategy. NFL players in the commercials is definitely not a little known concept by any means, but they still seem to surprise us football fans.
Hulu Has Live Sports
If you have not heard, HULU HAS LIVE SPORTS, and it has had it for a few years now and is even my main provider for watching live sports. How did I hear about this? Well I heard it from my favorite (needs some work on his play) player Baker Mayfield. Baker has become almost a meme for the amount of commercials he is making for companies like Hulu and Progressive. Even though he may not look like his best self out on the field, he does look like a natural amateur actor for commercials. Because of his recent season, Baker is getting some heat for how many commercials he is doing versus his view as a player.
Baker is not the only player who is getting the spotlight for the big companies such as these. Numerous amounts of highlighted names have done commercials galore once they got to the NFL, but some of the other names that stick out more now than before are names like Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Troy Polamalu.
These three NFL stars are stars at the minimum. They are all Hall of Fame caliber players, even Patrick Mahomes. Having big name players like these three do your commercials for you is a huge 'bag getter'.
You'll see Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes in a plethora of State Farm commercials with both NFL superstars. Sure you have Jake from State Farm, but the show is focused on the athletes in these commercials.
Now onto an already Hall of Famer, Troy Polamalu. Troy has become very known for his big poofy hair coming out the back of his helmet while he 'took the heads off' of wide receivers, running backs, and the occasional quarterback. Troy is so known for his hair that he has even done commercials for the shampoo and conditioner brand, Head & Shoulders. Now not only has the Hall of Famer made his way as a spokesperson for H&S, but Patrick Mahomes has come onto those scenes also. Patrick is not as known for his hair as much as his play, but it's Patrick Mahomes! Who actually cares about his hair.
Seeing these NFL stars in these commercials will definitely be huge attention grabbers for football fans that may not enjoy watching commercials much. You'll see more commercials like these during the super bowl like the one that came out for NFL 100 in 2019.
The NFL has become a key part of advertisements especially for the United States.
