10. Wild Card

Typically when people look at my website, I am either writing about football, video games, or maybe just some other topic, but for this wild card I though I would keep it in sports with the University of Oklahoma. I have always kept my sports focus around football, but over the last few years I have become very fond of college softball. This fondness have come from the Oklahoma Sooners of course and softball head coach Patty Gasso.

Coach Gasso has already been named the greatest softball coach of all-time from what she has been doing in Norman, Oklahoma for the past 27 years. Coach Gasso has five national championships under her belt with four being in the last ten years. Her teams are the reason why I softball has become my second favorite sport to watch, only behind football.

The best part of Patty Gasso is not what she has happening on the diamond, but it's what she does off of it with her players. She has been pushing her saying to B4TL, which means Battle For The Lord. Players are coming because of Patty Gasso, and they are loving every bit of it.

The Oklahoma Sooners Softball team are currently 42-1 in 2022 with their only loss of the season being to the rival Texas Longhorns. This years Sooners have broken multiple NCAA records including longest winning streak (which now sits at 40 wins in a row) and home runs hit in a career (now owned by Jocelyn Alo with her 110 career home runs). The previous holder of the record for home runs was Oklahoma graduate Lauren Chamberlain at 95.

The team keeps adding more and more to the resume on why they are the best college softball team of all-time. They're one of the largest reasons why college sports fans are wanting softball to be covered more on ESPN and other broadcasts like FOX or ABC. The WCWS (Women's College World Series) has become one of the largest parts of college sports for fans to watch because of teams like Oklahoma. When it is Women's College World Series time is when ESPN will be broadcasting every game, because they know what brings in the money.

While there is still a higher watch rate for college baseball, softball is on an uprise. The speed of the games, the action, and the homers keep the interest of the people focused in. When Jocelyn Alo broke that record with her 96th home run, the NCAA, ESPN, and basically any softball website was posting about it. Even better was she did the feat in her home state of Hawaii.

The Oklahoma Sooners Softball program is changing the game of college softball for the better through the coaching of Patty Gasso to just being that great like Jocelyn Alo.
